Reading for comprehensive exams has had, thus far, two main components: reading the books (or the parts of them that are the most relevant for this purpose) and typing up notes on them. Granted, I have most of the books checked out from the library, and only a handful have ever been recalled since I started this process. However, I am not willing to run the risk of having to give up the book when I need to review it. Notes, I figure, addresses that problem.
But, that isn’t the only problem.
I spend most days moving between two chairs in my house–the “reading” chair and the “note taking” chair, the latter of which is my desk chair. I have found, however, that this is a particularly desirable location from the perspective of the cat population in this house.
First, there was a “line” to use the desk chair:
Then, I found different cats, all disturbed from their naps, whenever I pulled the desk chair out from under the desk:
It got to the point that whenever I got out of the chair, for however brief a period, I’d find a cat sitting in it when I returned. So, I decided to block access to the desk chair by piling file folders in it. Then, I got this response:
It looks like I’ll need to find a new strategy. Or buy more desk chairs.
Ha ha, I have the same problem, but with three small dogs 🙂

It seems to me that the cats only want to sit in the chairs when I am around. When I am away, when I return they are leaving the chairs empty, and can be found in other places–most popular being windowsills or beds. More chairs is not a solution. I have many chairs which go ignored until I begin sitting on them. My use of a chair increases the desirability of the chair to the cats.

I believe I am dealing with the same phenomenon.

I laughed so hard at this because we struggle with the same thing! I have given up even the idea of trying to sit in my desk chair without shooing a cat out of it first. 😀

We call it the ‘butt-crack’. As in: you just got up, and your butt is warm, and warmth is crack for cats. So; your butt crack will always be filled by a feline 🙂

Ha! That’s hilarious!

A familiar problem. I have a decoy chair next to my desk now. It mostly works, but sometimes I find myself sitting in the decoy chair instead of my proper desk chair.

That’s hilarious! We have tried to attract the cats’ attention to boxes that we leave around the office (they love boxes), but they are, apparently, not attractive enough. Desk chair is always a preferable alternative.

Our feline overlords are too smart and contrary for us. If we want them to go in boxes or to use particular chairs they will find a way not to do so that inconveniences us more than just letting them have their way in the first place would have done.

Ah, the attraction of a recently butt-warmed chair! And I LOVE that throw, by the way.
Yay, a comment out of the past! I’m soooo far behind 🙂
